Overall Theme: Through Job 1-2, James 1, 1 Corinthians 10:13, and Romans 5:3-5, the sermon teaches about the worshiper's faith to "hold firm in trials," the conviction that "God is faithful," and that temptation comes not from God but from desire and Satan.
Job's Faith: Job, even after losing his possessions and family, worshiped by saying, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised" (Job 1:21), demonstrating steadfastness by not sinning with his lips (Job 1).
Second Trial and God's Sovereignty: In the second trial, against Satan's challenge of "skin for skin" (Job 2:4), God set a boundary for life. Even amidst painful sores all over his body and his wife's temptation, Job maintained his faith, asking, "Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" (Job 2).
Trials and Spiritual Stability: Trials are permitted within God's sovereignty and have limits. By worshiping His name and preparing our hearts before the Lord, we can gain stability rooted in His word, even when our spirituality fluctuates like the rainy season (Job 2, emphasis on worship).
God's Faithfulness: "God is faithful" (1 Corinthians 10:13). No unbearable trial is permitted, and a way of escape is always provided. A path to receive is opened by responding with faith, not doubt (1 Cor 10:13, James 1).
Source of Temptation: The source of temptation is not God, but each person's desires and Satan. Desire leads to sin, and sin leads to death (James 1:13-15). Discern inner discontent and the voices of external persuasion, and maintain a heart that does not curse God.
Seeking Wisdom: Those who lack wisdom should ask God, who gives generously without finding fault. Undoubting faith in asking is key; a double-minded person is unstable like a wave of the sea and should not expect to receive anything (James 1:5-8).
Fleeting Wealth: Wealth and glory pass away like the flowers of the field. Standing on Job's confession, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart" (Job 1:21), find joy in the Lord regardless of social status (James 1:9-11).
Trials Lead to Hope: Trials produce perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope (Romans 5:3-5, James 1:2-4). Those who persevere will receive the "crown of life" promised (James 1:12).
Doers of the Word: Be doers of the word, not merely hearers. Especially in times of trial, gather for praise and worship, align your heart before the Lord, acknowledge His sovereignty, and cultivate steadfastness (James 1 throughout, practice of worship).
Specific Action Points :
On 2026-06-07, read aloud Job 2, James 1, and 1 Corinthians 10:13, and confess "God is faithful" and "May the name of the Lord be praised" in prayer.
This week, especially when feeling down, prioritize praise, gather for worship, and declare against inner discontent, "I will not curse the Lord, but fear God and shun evil."
* The moment temptation is felt, declare "Ask in faith, with no doubting" (James 1:6) and offer a short prayer asking for specific wisdom and a way of escape.
