Key Message of the Sermon

  1. The speaker grew up in a minister's family but struggled with public speaking. When the church was looking for a new minister, he felt a sense of dread that he might be called, but initially, someone else was chosen, which became an opportunity to reflect on God's true intentions.
  2. In January 2022, another vote was held to select a minister. The couple prayed, and since they both had the same candidate in mind, they felt at peace with that person being chosen. However, when the results were tallied, they were the ones called.
  3. Upon facing this call, he felt strong resistance and anxiety. However, he recalled the Book of Jonah and realized he could not say "no" to a calling from God that resulted from the prayers of both the church and themselves, so he began to accept it as reality.
  4. He felt he was "slow of speech," but was encouraged by Exodus 4:10-12, where the Lord says He will be with his mouth and teach him what to say. His heart was prepared to trust not in his own weakness, but in what God would accomplish.
  5. His wife, Megan, also grew up in a minister's family and felt anxious about the sacrifices involved in ministry, specifically the "loss of family time." However, she repented, realizing that this anxiety was self-centered, and decided to follow God's will.
  6. The couple reaffirmed Ephesians 3:20, renewing their trust that God is one who works far beyond our requests and thoughts. They prepared their hearts not to limit God's work with their own thinking.
  7. The minister initially struggled with reading scripture and organizing his thoughts, but supported by God's grace, the help of the Holy Spirit, and his family's prayers, he has realized his growth while continuing to serve.
  8. His wife, Megan, testified to watching her husband gain confidence and grow through the Spirit. Her husband, who used to struggle with memorizing scripture, now searches for related passages even while others are preaching and can provide supplementary comments.
  9. Honest feedback from family and church members is essential for nurturing those who serve. The minister expressed gratitude, noting that the strict yet loving feedback from his family, in particular, has led to his growth.
  10. This testimony, shared at the service on August 30, 2026, is based on the teaching that "serving is a joy." It emphasizes the importance of serving the Lord with joy while trusting in God, even when feeling fear or inadequacy.
